The Supreme Court of Singapore (Government, Legal)
Objective:
Deploying an Electronic Queue Management System (EQMS) for Registrars hearing in order to improve waiting time and better management of court hearing queues.
Project Description:
Until the EQMS was deployed, lawyers and solicitors have to wait at the Supreme Court for their hearing. They do not have any idea when their turn will arrive, or in which order as they will register at counter.
However, with the implementation of the EQMS (Electronic Queue Management System), these solicitors can now with the convenience of a click on a touchscreen monitor have a queue number and search for their case in the computer system.
The system contains ticket dispensing kiosks where arriving lawyers obtain a queue number and 40' LCD display screens to show queue status of the various chambers. The lawyers can also opt to receive an SMS when their number is near the top of the queue. This system requires retrieving data from other sub systems which involves complex integration between them.
They can access when their hearing will be and there will not be any confusion regarding whose hearing should come in order first. They can perform other duties or read at library instead of waiting outside the chamber as in previous scenario.
The Singapore legal system which is the most efficient legal system in the world has again not rested on its laurels and continue to improve its system.
